Apprentice Position Carpentry.

This position has been filled for now.

In 2009 All restricted building work in NZ will need to be carried out or supervised by licensed builders having and shown competency in the building industry.

There is likely to be a shortage of qualified builders.

To achieve this Certified Builders Association of New Zealand (CBANZ) (of which John myself and our company are members) have formed an alliance with the major polytechnics in New Zealand to reintroduce apprenticeships in the Building Industry.

This organization is called "Industry Training Association Building" (ITAB). Their Web site > http://www.itab.co.nz

ITAB encourages anyone regardless of age or gender to undertake this building apprenticeship.

The course is of 8,000 hrs duration. This equates to between 3 1/2 to 4 years.

Flexible Block Course Polytechnic Training
Each Polytechnic has the flexibility to deliver the theoretical competent of the apprenticeship training according to the demand in the area. This off site training can be in the form of

  • One day a week for 20 weeks

  • Block courses

  • Night School

However at the end of each year there will be the requirement to undertake a one week block course to assess the knowledge that has been gained and retained by the apprentice through the year.

Who will issue qualification certificates?
All certificates, the National Certificate in Carpentry (NCC) and National Certificate in Carpentry - Advanced (NCCA) are issued by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) on the satisfactory completion of the course and assessment of the apprentice by the participating Franchised Polytechnics.

The Due Completion of Apprenticeship certificate is issued by ITaB on completion of the agreed time served element of the apprenticeship.
